February 2004:

BRADFORDIANS DRAMATIC SOCIETY
in conjunction with
ST LAURENCE COMMUNITY THEATRE

are proud to present

"Cider with Rosie"
by Laurie Lee
a stage adaptation by James Roose-Evans

Directed by Jenny Riddle and John O'Brien

A beautiful, touching and poetic adaptation of this modern classic. A production to delight and engage the whole family as Laurie Lee's vivid memories of childhood in a remote Cotswold village are recreated on stage with stunning simplicity. Brilliantly underscored with live music throughout to set your feet tapping and to stir the emotions from sadness to laughter.
Come and join the young Laurie Lee on his first day at school, meet the two Grannies, 'Er-Down-Under' and 'Er-Up-Top'. Follow the charabanc to Weston-Super-Mare and wonder at the Parochial Church tea entertainment.
Be part of a timeless place on the verge of change
.

Rehearsals are under way the actors have experienced a range of games, tasks & improvisations designed, we hope, to make this a happy & successful 'ensemble' production, working with a minimal set involving a large ramp & wide thrust stage - Jim is already at work on this. On the last performance night we are planning to offer a picnic of hot pasties, a selection of salads & flagons of cider to wash it all down for our audience before the play. Throughout the play music is a vital accompaniment to the lyricism of Laurie Lee's portrayal of his early life in the village of Slad & we are presently in discussion with a local folk group, who may be persuaded to join out motley crew, providing not only music throughout the production but some pre-performance entertainment to warm the cockles of our hearts on a cold February night and transport us all back to the early days of rural life in a Gloucestershire village.
If you are not in the cast or roped into helping backstage or FOH we look forward to your support out there in the audience, making sure our cast of 38 play to full houses.
From the directors Jenny Riddle & John O'Brien
