THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO HELPED MAKE THIS A SUCH A GREAT PRODUCTION
"HALFWAY UP THE TREE"
a comedy by Sir Peter Ustinov
Performance dates - 27th - 30th October
Directors - Earl Nuttall & Helen Sanders
(both 'graduates'of the Directors Course we organised in 2002)Ever thought about jacking it all in and going to live up a tree? Then this is the play for you.
A comic study of the age old Parent - Child relationship, its expectations and what happens when it all gets turned on its head.
Written by an extremely clever, witty and multi-talented man who will be much missed; Peter Ustinov. Some stonking great parts - it was good to see lots of new faces and strong performances at the auditions. The cast is as follows::Characters-
Sue Bolden as Lady Fitzbuttress 40s/50s - long suffering wife of Mallalieu and mother of Robert and Judy, a woman with a secret, who is trying to maintain the status quo despite the odds.
Keely Beresford as Helga 20s -, ravishing Norwegian au-pair, lazy, selfish and insubordinate, a typical 'youth of today' although she speaks much truth and sense.
Phil Courage as General Sir Mallalieu Fitzbuttress 40s/50s - husband of Lady Fitzbuttress, has just returned from 4 years at war to find his family's circumstances somewhat changed. His response is surprising and confusing to his family especially when he decides to go to live up a tree! Funny, quick witted,
Mark Birleson as Robert 20s - son of the Fitzbuttresses, recently sent down from Oxford, idealistic bohemian, flouting all conventions and extolling the virtues of peace and love
Louisa Hart as Judy - pretty, pregnant (father unknown), daddy's girl, rather idealistic view of life but cant quite follow it through when reality hits
Both Robert and Judy are conventional in their unconventionality and neither can deal with their father's rebellion
Tessa Tangring as Lesley 20s - Robert's girlfriend who looks exactly like him, talks exactly like him and thinks exactly like him. Plays the guitar very badly.
Gareth Leake as Basil Utterwood 20s - Judy's fiancée, initially appears to be nice, weak and generally being bullied, but ultimately the worm turns
Ian Smart as Brigadier ('Tiny') Gilliatt-Brown 40s/50s - army colleague of Mallalieu who's been in love with Lady Fitzbuttress for 26 years, bit of a lap-dog
Nick Neal-Useche as the Vicar 40+ - subtlety gets to the truth of a situation, voice of reason, earnest and understanding of the times
Production Manager Rob Hearn 01225 867689 - Directors Earl 01225 863816 or Helen 01225 316473
Auditions:
It was good to see so many new faces and strong performances at the auditions. Casting is always difficult and some of were bound to be disappointed.
Thanks to everyone who helped in anyway, before or during production week, backstage, front of house, stage dressing, props, a few hours
