When the Summer if Over...

Returning home after oneıs summer holiday is normally a bit of an anticlimax, all those unpaid bills and mundane telephone messages bringing you back to earth with a bump. But after two weeks in Ireland (my first time and to be thoroughly recommended) there was something to catch my attention: a message from Jo Tillion, our extremely efficient Society Secretary, pronouncing "What a clever Society we are!". This deserves further investigation I thought, and I was right. It would appear that between the many talents we have in the Society we have managed to gain no less than FIVE Rose Bowl Nominations!!! I was beginning to think that perhaps going on holiday wasnıt such a bad idea after all and that maybe I should do it more often!

Once again this confirms what a well rounded Society we are with the ability to perform well in many different areas. We wish all our nominees the best of luck at the Awards Ceremony on Sunday 14 Oct.

On the subject of recent successes there are two other things worthy of a mention. First, Freda Ferne who organised a number of very successful and well attended play reading evenings over the summer. Freda is very enthusiastic about providing activities to supplement the main productions the Society puts on each year but these have often met with only limited support. However the many comments I have received regarding the play readings show that we hit the mark this time. Many thanks to Freda for having the enthusiasm and energy to organise these events and make them a success. Thanks also to Anthony and Moira Forsyth for kindly allowing us the use of their Annexe. Freda hopes to develop some of these ideas and perform them at a social evening. If you would like to be involved please come along to a meeting upstairs at the Lambert Rooms on Monday 24th September at 7:30pm, or get in touch with Freda on 865260.

Second a mention for Poppy Burton-Morgan. Some of you may be aware that Poppy successfully gained a place on the National Youth Theatre Summer Course. To show its support for Poppy the Committee made a contribution towards her expenses. A copy of the letter of thanks from Poppy is shown overleaf. In the meantime we would all like to wish Poppy the best of luck in her future endeavours and hope that her hopes of going to RADA will be realised.

Cast for Habeas Corpus

Autumn Production

I started my spell as Chairman under something of a cloud in that despite approaching all the normal suspects no one seemed to be willing to take on directing the Autumn show. However I should not have worried because Phil Courage finally came good by volunteering to direct Habeus Corpus. The casting committee, which sat rather later than normal, actually had quite a job on its hands - there were simply too many good performances to choose from! The result is a particularly strong cast (see below) and so once again I am expecting something a little bit special. There are still plenty of jobs to be filled, so if you are interested please get in touch with Phil on 864154 - he will be delighted to hear from you.

The play is set in the '70 and so we would love to hear from anyone who has any clothes from that era that they would be willing to lend for the production - please contact Sue Grier on 866958. We are also in need of a stethoscope!

Performances will be in Trinity Hall, St Laurence School from Thursday 1st to Saturday 3rd November. Tickets from our box office in the Town Library from Saturday 13th October when our telephone hotline will also be available on 0790 527 4166. But please, do not telephone the Library!

Sad Losses

It is with much sadness that the Society has to say good bye to Kate Courage who has moved away from the area. The Society will very much miss her musical talents and wishes her all the very best with her new job.

More sadness comes from the recent announcement that Fiona Davies has found it necessary to step down as Treasurer, although we hope to keep her on the committee for as long as possible. Many thank to Fiona for all her hard work in making the Societyıs accounts so transparent and for her unforgettable on stage performances such as Lady Macbeth which will leave a lasting impression.

Letter of Thanks

Dear Jo and all at Bradfordians,

Thank you so much for the cheque, it was a lovely surprise to come home to. NYT was amazing, easily the best three weeks of my life.

Hopefully I'll see you all soon if I can get into whatever you're doing next.

Thanks again!

Yours sincerely

Poppy Burton-Morgan.
